A word wall is just what is says! A wall of words! I put words up on the wall that come from a 3rd grade high frequency word list. These are words that are said and written often. They also include some of those words that we can't "sound out". I also display words that I notice the students are having trouble with in their writing.
The students can look up and just copy down the word whenever they need it. They are held accountable for those words in their writing. Finding the word and copying it down multiple times helps the child remember the spelling of the word. We also do activities during the week involving our word wall words.
I will give the students a list of the words we add over a 1-2 week period. Every 1 - 2 weeks the students will have a word wall "test". I will cover the word wall and pick only some of the words to give as a "test". A list will be sent home and is also linked right here on this page. That way you can practice with your child!
